York Photo Walk

Our daughter-in-law, Beth, got us hooked on a couple years ago and it really has been fun.  A couple months ago we came across an entry by Andy at Visual Realia that mentioned a photo walk in York PA.  Mind you, this isn't instruction but simply a bunch of people coming together, with camera in hand, to simply take in the sights and capture some images.

Andy established a course through the city that was approximately 2 miles long, issued maps that hi-lighted landmarks we'd see and, most importantly, put in an order for perfect weather.  Along with us on the walk, to provide some insight, was Scott Butcher author of "York's Historic Architecture".  The walk also brought with it an opportunity to see and photograph the York Water Company's 3800 square foot ceiling mural.  Mr J.T. Hand, the York Water Company's COO, was on hand to tell us some history about the mural.... it's origins, how it was covered with a sub-ceiling, and eventually restored to it's original glory.

About 50 people were present for the walk sporting all manor of equipment.  Many were toting small easy to carry "point & shoot" digital cameras while others were handling lots of big and heavy gear.  Kathy and I were sort of in the middle.  We each carried a DSLR, an extra lens and a small pack on our back.  Much less than usual.

We took a little over 200 images between us and offer a few of them here.  Images submitted by other photographers in the group can be seen by clicking here, York Photo Walk NOTE:  Clicking on some of these images will get you a larger view.

On our way home from the photo walk we happened across this display at the Prospect Hill Cemetery.  You hear the numbers of dead on the news but a display like this is incredibly visual.  The number lost from the PA National Guard was a surprise.
